We buy speciality coffee, which represents 1-3% of the world's best coffee supply, and means we pay a higher price than Fairtrade.
The Fairtrade model is a great start, but often favours bigger farms. The Fairtrade system delivers 1.60 $ per lbs as a minimum price guarantee, but that price can be spread across multiple businesses in-country, and therefore doesn't always benefit the small producer.
We try wherever possible to remove links in the chain to maximise the income for farmers. As an example, we recently worked on a great community wet mill project in Colombia. This coffee was launched as a limited edition in 2021 and proved to be a great success!
